Sumario:This work aims to reflect on the character of the early Romanization process characteristic of the Republican period, using the publicly displayed epigraphy of the Iberian Peninsula during the 2nd and 1st centuries BC as a plot line. Starting from the pre-Roman context, three specific innovations that took place in that period will be analyzed: the appearance of epigraphy on bronze and its relationship with official communication, the development of urban epigraphic sets, and the gradual linguistic Latinization. Roman models together with local selections and adaptations will be noted, taking into consideration inscriptions produced both in Latin and in vernacular languages and scripts.
