Córdoba was the place where the largest number of them were sent and they remained there for about ten months. In this paper we analyze the impact of British prisoners in Cordoba, considering the reactions and debates of the colonial authorities about the treatment they should had received, how they had to be distributed and the restrictions that were necessary to keep security in the city and its surroundings. We will also see English prisoners challenges to controls, as well as their attempts to escape and upraise. This situation led to several controversies between the two main local factions, “sobremontistas” and “funecistas” and was another incident in the ongoing confrontation between these two political groups.
