Population object of the study was composed by 7th, 8th and 9th year adolescent students, from this population a 20% stratified random probabilistic sample was obtained. Two questionnaire type instruments were used for data collection, one for protective factors identification and the other referred to the perception of adolescent towards alcohol consumption. Collected data was analyzed using absolute and relative frequencies and Spearman’s correlation coefficient. Results show that a weak positive correlation between the perception of the referred alcohol consumption to knowledge of the damage and between the protective factors in the average student and the perception of the alcohol consumption exists, also I demonstrate a weak negative correlation between the protective motivation and factors; and the personal and communitarian protective factors of the alcohol consumption with the perception ofthe consumption of the alcohol consumption, which indicates that they do not have relation between if, which could be explained by the presence of factors of risk instead of protective factors in the studied sample.

La presente investigación de tipo descriptiva correlacional, tuvo como objetivo determinar la relación existente entre los factores protectores y la percepción del consumo de alcohol en los adolescentes cursantes de la Tercera Etapa de Escuela Básica de la “Unidad Educativa Campo Solo” de San Diego, estado Carabobo, Venezuela en el año académico 2003-2004. La población objeto del estudio estuvo conformada por adolescentes estudiantes de 7mo, 8vo y 9no año, de los cuales se tomó una muestra probabilística aleatoria estratificada representada por el 20%del total. Para la recolección de los datos se utilizaron dos instrumentos tipo cuestionario, uno para identificar los factores protectores y el otro referido a la percepción del adolescente hacia el consumo de alcohol. Los datos obtenidos se analizaron mediante frecuencias absolutas y relativas y se calculó el coeficiente de Correlación de Spearman. Los resultados mostraron que el 79,0% presenta factores protectores escolares y el 42,2%factores protectores relacionados con los pares, sin embargo, solo el 21,3% de los encuestados presentan factores protectores personales, el 24,7% factores protectores familiares, y en la comunidad el 29,8%, en estos últimos casos predominan los factores de riesgo. Para la actitud hacia el consumidor los valores obtenidos demuestran una conducta realista, el 73,7% de los encuestados tiene conocimiento sobre los daños que ocasiona el consumo de alcohol, el 15,9% tiene una imagen real de los consumidores de alcohol y el 36,8% presenta rechazo a los consumidores de alcohol, lo cual pudiera influir positivamente en la decisión de consumir alcohol del adolescente. Se mostró una débil correlación positiva entre la percepción del consumo de alcohol referido a conocimiento del daño y los factores protectores referidos al medio escolar, también se evidencia una correlación negativa débil entre la motivación y los factores protectores, personales y comunitarios del consumo de alcohol. El resto de los factores protectores no tienen correlación significativa con la percepción del consumo de alcohol.  Escuela de Salud Pública y Ambiente. Fac. Cs.
