Objective: The objective of this study was to estimate and explain the effect of COVID-19 pandemic on the outpatient services of public mental health care in Coquimbo region, Chile.
Materials and Methods: A sequential mixed method design (DEXPLIS) was used. In the first stage, an analysis of uninterrupted time series from 2017 to 2021 was conducted on mental health care consultations included in the monthly statistical record (MSR), revealing a decrease of 56% in outpatient visits by 2020. In a second qualitative phase, experiences and perceptions were explored and analyzed through thematic content analysis of focus groups with managers, professionals, and community representatives.
Results and Conclusion: There was a decrease in face-to-face outpatient consultations in Coquimbo region. Planning with territorial relevance and a community approach is essential in case of similar emergencies.

Introducción: La pandemia por COVID 19 ha tensionado los sistemas de salud en todo el mundo, al mismo tiempo ha generado un impacto negativo en la salud mental de la población. Los servicios de salud mental tienen el desafío de responder a las necesidades de salud mental de la población en contextos de emergencia sanitaria. Objetivo: El objetivo del presente estudio, fue estimar y explicar el efecto que tuvo la pandemia COVID-19 en las atenciones de los servicios públicos ambulatorios de salud mental de la Región de Coquimbo, Chile, para lo cual se utilizó un método mixto secuencial (DEXPLIS). Material y métodos: En una primera etapa, se realizó un análisis de serie de tiempo ininterrumpidos en el periodo 2017-2021 de las atenciones de salud mental incluidas en el registro estadístico mensual (REM), con una disminución del 56% al año 2020 de las atenciones ambulatorias. Una segunda fase cualitativa, indagó y profundizó en los hallazgos a través de un análisis de contenido temático de las experiencias y percepciones recogidas a través de grupos focales de gestores, profesionales y representantes de la comunidad. Resultados y conclusiones: Se concluye que existió una disminución de las atenciones ambulatorias presenciales en la región de Coquimbo. Se sostiene que ante emergencias similares es fundamental la planificación con pertinencia territorial y enfoque comunitario. Introdução: A pandemia do COVID 19 sobrecarregou os sistemas de saúde em todo o mundo, gerando, ao mesmo tempo, um impacto negativo na saúde mental da população. Os serviços de saúde mental têm o desafio de responder às necessidades de saúde mental da população em contextos de emergência sanitária. Objetivo: O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar e explicar o efeito que a pandemia de COVID-19 teve na atenção dos serviços públicos ambulatoriais de saúde mental na região de Coquimbo, Chile. Materiais e Método: Foi utilizado um método misto sequencial (DEXPLIS). Numa primeira fase, foi realizada uma análise de série temporal ininterrupta no período 2017-2021 dos cuidados de saúde mental incluídos no cadastro estatístico mensal (REM), com uma diminuição de 56% até 2020 nos cuidados ambulatórios. Uma segunda fase qualitativa investigou e aprofundou os achados por meio de uma análise de conteúdo temática das experiências e percepções coletadas por meio de grupos focais de gestores, profissionais e representantes da comunidade. Resultados e conclusão: Houve uma diminuição do atendimento ambulatorial presencial na região de Coquimbo. Argumenta-se que, diante de emergências semelhantes, o planejamento com relevância territorial e abordagem comunitária é essencial.
