description Rabies represents an important public health problem and health surveillance actions for this condition are fundamental for monitoring and building knowledge. Objective: to describe the epidemiological profile of anti-rabies care at the Largo da Batalha Regional Polyclinic, in the city of Niterói, Brasil. Method: Observational, descriptive and retrospective study of notifications of human anti-rabies care. The frequencies were arranged in the Excel® program and analyzed by SPSS®. Results: 7111 notifications were analyzed, of which 52.6% were female. The most affected age group, 20-64 years, represented 60.5% of the visits. Most were residents (n=6131; 86.2%). The aggressor species with the most records was canine, 77.1%, followed by felines, 21.5%. Regarding the epidemiological history, 79% of the animals - dogs and cats were subject to observation, 24.7% were suspected and, of the types of accidents, correlating mild / severe by species, 73.5% occurred with primates. In 86.7% of cases, VARH was chosen, whereas SARH occurred in 4.8% of cases. The prophylactic regimen with two doses was the most prescribed, 4399 (76.3%). As for dropout, the lowest rate was also in the two-dose scheme (n=817; 18.6%). Conclusion: Although 79% of the visits are subject to observation, it is necessary to maintain qualified surveillance, with a view to the rational use of immunobiologicals and reduction of abandonment.
