Sumario:This paper analyzes how in the context of the Cold War, futurology linked to strategic planning, was an important instrument to design the Nationals Project in Argentina and Chile ́s military dictatorship, as well as in the political and economic reorganization. Futures studies served to provide a scientific framework to the dictatorships refoundational project. In Latin America, future studies were linked to the National Security Doctrine, allowed to anticipate possible scenarios to plan and develop publicpolicies. The institutional dictatorships of the Armed Forces of Argentina and Chile resorted to this discipline to design government ́s plans in the long‐range.
