Based on interviews and government data, we examine in depth the adequacy of salaries, participation in decision-making, possibilities for professional growth, skills and abilities, and future expectations of young municipal employees. The case studies are evaluated individually and comparatively. El trabajo analiza la situación de los empleados públicos jóvenes en 5 municipios de Querétaro, México. Se buscan valorar si para los jóvenes funcionarios públicos aplica la afirmación popular según la cual el empleo en el sector público es una situación de privilegio respecto a otros trabajos. A partir de entrevistas y datos de los gobiernos se profundiza en la suficiencia del salario, la participación en la toma decisiones, las posibilidades de crecimiento profesional, aptitudes y capacidades y expectativas de futuro de los jóvenes empleados de los municipios. Los casos de estudio se valoran individual y comparativamente.
