| Sumario: | This article is derived from my undergraduate thesis (TFL), defended in 2023, titled: “Between Memory and History: An Ethnography on the Modes of Heritage Construction and Management at the Museo de la Memoria Visual in Tres Cruces, Jujuy, Argentina.”The main objective of this work was to explore how the processes of memory construction and heritage management intertwine in the configuration of the Museo de la Memoria Visual in the town of Tres Cruces, Jujuy. Through an ethnographic approach, the study examined how local history —shaped by the rise and subsequent decline of the railway, as well as the mining activity of the El Aguilar Mining Company—is evoked and managed through Oral History Workshops and the Museum itself. The article analyzes the uniqueness of Tres Cruces, due to its ambiguous identity as both part of the Quebrada de Humahuaca and the Puna region, and the tensions and contradictions arising from the UNESCO World Heritage designation and the development of tourism in the area. This article offers a concise reconstruction of the main reflections that emerged throughout the research. |
