Through an ethnographic approach, the study examined how local history —shaped by the rise and subsequent decline of the railway, as well as the mining activity of the El Aguilar Mining Company—is evoked and managed through Oral History Workshops and the Museum itself.The article analyzes the uniqueness of Tres Cruces, due to its ambiguous identity as both part of the Quebrada de Humahuaca and the Puna region, and the tensions and contradictions arising from the UNESCO World Heritage designation and the development of tourism in the area. This article offers a concise reconstruction of the main reflections that emerged throughout the research. Este artículo se desprende del Trabajo Final de Licenciatura (TFL) de autoría propia, defendido en el año 2023, titulado: “Entre la memoria y la historia. Una etnografía sobre los modos de construcción y gestión del patrimonio en el museo de la Memoria Visual en Tres Cruces, Jujuy, Argentina”.El objetivo principal de este trabajo fue indagar sobre los modos en que los procesos de construcción de memorias y la gestión del patrimonio se entrelazan en la configuración del Museo de la Memoria Visual de la localidad de Tres Cruces, Jujuy. Mediante un abordaje etnográfico, se exploró cómo la historia local, marcada por el auge y la posterior desaparición del ferrocarril, y la actividad minera de la Compañía Minera El Aguilar, es evocada y gestionada a través de los Talleres de Historia Oral y el propio Museo.Se analiza la singularidad de la localidad de Tres Cruces, por su ambigüedad al ser percibida tanto como una localidad de la Quebrada de Humahuaca como de la Puna, y las tensiones y contradicciones generadas por la declaración de Patrimonio Mundial de la UNESCO y el desarrollo del turismo en la región. En el presente artículo se reconstruyen sintéticamente las principales reflexiones a las cuales se fue arribando a lo largo de la investigación. Facultad de Filosofía y Humanidades.
