However, in the last five years there have been advances that contribute to an interpretative reflection of the importance of the subjective and symbolic in understanding this phenomenon. In this paper we present a theoretical analysis of the category of " social representations " , from which we are positioned to understand this dimension of segregation, and lets us know the " world view " that construct subjects to work or take position on different social objects , in this case , the territory and the phenomenon of socioeconomic residential segregation. En los últimos años ha habido un renovado interés por el estudio de la segregación residencial socioeconómica en la región; por lo general, éstos han estado centrados en el abordaje cuantitativo del fenómeno, en especial a la medición de los niveles segregación y a los efectos negativos de este fenómeno en la calidad de vida de la población, siendo escasos los estudios de la dimensión subjetiva de la misma. Sin embargo, en los últimos cinco años se han producido avances que contribuyen a una reflexión interpretativa de la importancia de lo subjetivo y simbólico en la comprensión de este fenómeno. En este articulo presentamos una análisis de la categoría teórica de las “representaciones sociales”, desde la cual nos posicionamos para entender esta dimensión de la segregación, ya nos permite conocer la “visión de mundo” que construyen los sujetos para actuar o tomar posición ante los distintos objetos sociales, en este caso, el territorio y el fenómeno de la segregación residencial socioeconómica.
