Sumario:In order to obtain preliminary information about some aspects related to flowering and fructification of chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) in our area, 4 plants from each of 5 pure lines obtained from Sauco and Criollo cvs. sown in 1973 and 1974 were analyzed. The average percentages of flowers producing pods and seeds for both years were 41% and 45% respectively. When flowering was analyzed once a fortnight, the highest values were those of the 2nd and 3rd fortnight; they were 50% and 48% respectively. Concerning seed production, the 96% and 100% corresponded during 1973 and 1974 to the 2nd, 3rd and 4th fortnight of the flowering period. It was determined that the seeds highest individual weights were obtained during the 1st, 2nd and 3rd fortnights of the period mentioned above, and that the shortest period for seed production varied from 25 to 28 days at the end of the growing cycle. This research project was accomplished at the Facultad de Ciencias Agropecuarias of the Universidad Nacional de Córdoba, Córdoba, Argentina.
