Sumario:The experiment was conducted in order to study the effect of CCC [(2-chloroethyl) trimethyl-ammonium chloride] and of water stress on the growth of soybean plants (Glycine max (L.) Merril) cultivar Halesoy 71. Single plants were grown in pots containing 4.500 g. of fertile soil and sand (3:1 v/v), under glasshouse conditions. Treatments consisted of 0; 1 and 2 g. of CCC applied as a soil drench, and of two soil moisture levels, i.e. with and without water stress. Water stress reduced stem length and dry weight in all treatments. The CCC shortened the stem as a result of the reduction in the length of internodes. Leaf area and total dry weight were not decreased by CCC, except in the treatment with 2 g. of CCC without water stress. Both CCC and water stress slightly delayed the beginning of flowering.
