Acid phosphatases (ACPH), esterases (EST), catechol oxidases (CO), glutamate oxaloacetate transaminases (GOT), malate dehydrogenases (MDH), and peroxidases (PER) were separated using polyacrylamide gels and later stained with specific stains for the various isoenzyme systems. ACPH, CO, EST, and MDH were found to be the most adequate systems for characterization. The results of the study of the different systems and the grouping of the cultivars are presented. The use of isoenzymatic techniques for the characterization of Vitis genotypes is suggested. Se eligieron 21 cultivares de Vitis vinifera L. y tres portainjertos para la caracterización bioquímica basada en la separación electroforética de las isoenzimas de extractos de raíz. Los sistemas isoenzimáticos estudiados fueron: fosfatasas ácidas (ACPH), esterasas (EST), catecol oxidasas (CO), glutamato oxalacetato transaminasas (GOT), malato deshidrogenasas (MDH) y peroxidasas (PER). La separación de los extractos de raíz se llevó a cabo en gel de poliacrilamida, con posterior tinción específica para los distintos sistemas enzimáticos. ACPH, CO, EST y MDH fueron los sistemas más adecuados para la caracterización. Se presentan los resultados de los diferentes sistemas y la agrupación de cultivares. Se recomienda el uso de técnicas isoenzimáticas en los estudios de caracterización del género Vitis.
