Sumario:The acquisition and development competences in industrial and service companies is the result of specific organizational dynamics. These dynamics define particular models that arise from the complementarity among actions aimed at the production and circulation of knowledge within firms. The aim of this paper is to analyze the processes of acquisition and development of competences at industrial and service companies in the town of Rafaela, province of Santa Fe. The theoretical- methodological framework used to carry out this analysis recognizes the relevance of different factors in the creation of competences, such as the structure and topics of training, the rotation schemes among positions and areas, and the processes of documentation and generation of knowledge. The importance of these five factors is empirically validated on the basis of data from a survey applied to a group of firms in Rafaela. These data also make it possible to account for the existence of different models of acquisition and development of competences. Greater synergies among the factors are associated with more virtuous apprenticeship models, in which differential sources and dynamics of knowledge production complement each other. On the other hand, the preeminence of training or on-the-job learning logics implies less dynamism in the generation of competences that enrich both individual and organizational knowledge.
