This article presents an overview of the Brazilian manufacturing industry from 1997 to 2018 and examines indicators that show the manifestation of structural heterogeneity and aspects of disparity between company sizes and their sectoral relationships. For this, in addition to descriptive analysis, indicators such as the coefficient of variation and the Gini index were used. From the analysis, it can be concluded that the increase in labor productivity of small companies in the most recent period (2007-2018) promoted a small reduction in the structural heterogeneity between the sizes of companies. However, the results of the indicators do not demonstrate a reduction in intra-size structural heterogeneity.
