In an initial selection phase, this involves using specialized texts published in books and scientific journals, as well as written records by mercantile and military sailors, missionaries, and scientists, to identify statements that may serve as examples for the proposed classification. The interdisciplinary approach of our research leads us to define the key concepts of this stage of linguistic inquiry from the perspectives of pragmalinguistics, linguistic archaeology, and linguistic anthropology.
