| Sumario: | The teaching of English at higher education level in Argentina is influenced by several factors, from its hegemonic role in academic communication worldwide to the existence of regulated standards of education quality. Despite a common ground for supporting the inclusion of English in the curricula, heterogeneity is observed in terms of course design and teaching practice. In this article, we will analyse the role of English in contrasting disciplinary contexts in Argentine public universities, as affected by ideological and contextual issues. We will analyse programs and study plans but also explore teachers’ perspectives in an attempt to account for individual choices but also identify joint achievements and challenges. |
