This material is often accessed in social science research as a result of interviews with key informants. There are documentary repertoires that are not formally constituted and usually acquire visibility from investigations or their institutional transfer. This article presents two cases corresponding to artists who work in Córdoba (Argentina) during the seventies and eighties. They were addressed because of a postdoctoral scholarship and the Archivo de la Palabra y la Imagen (CEA –UNC). First, we reconstruct biographical aspects and then the characteristics of the collections. In a second instance, questions analyze the challenges presented by the tension between the limits of the protection of privacy and the public opening of materials located outside the institutional circuits. It follows an interdisciplinary perspective. One of the conclusions is based on the undetected patrimonial value and the need for its recovery, as they are formed in local social memory supports. Los archivos personales posibilitan la reconstrucción de tramas individuales, a la vez que se configuran en vestigios socioculturales relevantes para el estudio del pasado reciente. Su rasgo distintivo es incluir elementos inéditos que permanecen confinados en el entorno doméstico. En las investigaciones en ciencias sociales, muchas veces se accede a este material como resultado de las entrevistas a informantes claves. Se trata de repertorios documentales que no se constituyen formalmente como tales y que suelen adquirir visibilidad a partir de pesquisas o su traspaso institucional. En este artículo, se presentan dos casos correspondientes a artistas que emprendieron actividades en la ciudad de Córdoba a lo largo de los años setenta y ochenta. Los mismos fueron abordados en el marco de una beca postdoctoral y de tareas articuladas con el Archivo de la Palabra y la Imagen. En primer lugar, se reconstruyen los aspectos biográficos y las características comunes y singulares de las colecciones. En una segunda instancia, se interroga acerca de los desafíos que presentan la tensión entre los límites del resguardo de la intimidad y la apertura pública de materiales localizados fuera de los circuitos institucionales. Metodológicamente, se aplica la descripción y el análisis desde aportes interdisciplinarios. Una de las conclusiones se apoya en el valor patrimonial no detectado previo a la investigación y la necesidad de su recuperación, en tanto se conforman en soportes de la memoria social local.
