A descriptive study was developed to diagnose the level of quality and degree of completion of hospitalization medical records on internal medicine services. The total population is 1633 medical records, therefore the sample is 312. The variables to be observed were the document types “Main Sheet”, “Informed Consent for Admission”, “Epicrisis” and “Clinical Evolution”, determining the absence or complete/incomplete presence of document. The “Epicrisis” has a high degree of completion, however, there is an absence in the “Main Sheet” and the “Informed Consent”. The “Clinical Evolution” shows that, although the documentation is present, the quality of the information is regular, since the “present” value does not mean that is complete. The quality of the medical history seems to be compromised, and could impact the performance of the different areas of the Hospital. It is recommended that healthcare and technical-administrative areas work together to ensure compliance with the standards established for the correct completion and adequate management of medical history. El presente trabajo de investigación está enfocado en analizar y determinar la evaluación crítica de la calidad de la información de las historias clínicas con una perspectiva archivística. Los documentos de salud cumplen con la triple función social: fuente para la historia, memoria de la institución y garantía en el ejercicio de los derechos. Se desarrolló un estudio descriptivo para diagnosticar el nivel de calidad y grado de cumplimentación de historias clínicas de internación en servicios de medicina interna sobre una población total de 1633 personas. Por lo tanto, la muestra es de 312. Las variables que se observaron fueron los tipos documentales “Hoja Principal”, “Consentimiento Informado de Ingreso”, “Epicrisis” y “Evolución Clínica” y se ha determinado la ausencia o presencia completa/incompleta del documento. Como resultado, obtuvimos que la “Epicrisis” tiene un alto grado de cumplimentación. No obstante, la “Hoja Principal” y el “Consentimiento informado” están ausentes. La “Evolución Clínica” nos muestra que, aunque la documentación está presente, la calidad de la información es regular, dado que, el valor “presente” no significa que esté completo. La calidad de la historia clínica parece estar comprometida y podría repercutir en el desempeño de las distintas áreas del hospital. Se recomienda el trabajo en conjunto con las áreas asistenciales y técnico-administrativas a fin de asegurar el cumplimiento de las normas establecidas para el correcto diligenciamiento y adecuado manejo de la historia clínica.
