We had in mind the existence of a sedimentary cover of sandstones that by their appearance seemed to be older than the age generally attributed to the analogous formations of the Sierras Pampeanas and corresponding to the Gondwana System. Hemos realizado la presente investigación, que constituye una sinopsis geológica de la sierra de Ambargasta, teniendo en cuenta que representaría un aporte al conocimiento de la terminación septentrional de la Sierra de Córdoba, una fracción sobre la que muy poco se había escrito hasta ahora. Tuvimos presente la existencia de una cubierta sedimentaria de areniscas que por su aspecto parecían ser de edad mas antigua que la que se atribuye en general a las formaciones análogas de las Sierras Pampeanas y correspondientes al Sistema de Gondwana.
