In these times in which we live, when the destiny of humanity appears dark and uncertain, when the very foundations of social organization are shaken, the repetition of this fact of normal life, takes on even more salient relief by pointing out a privilege of Providence for having kept our country away from the maelstrom. This distance in no way implies indifference and, in this sense, I am sure that at this moment, in the hearts of all of us, there blooms, especially, an emotional memory for those young people far from the classroom and for so many teachers and men of science removed from their noble tasks. La iniciación de un nuevo curso escolar no debía ser sino la repetición de un acto, común en un instituto de enseñanza, pero como todo aquello que se vincula a las etapas fundamentales de la vida, tiene en cada oportunidad la emoción de un hecho nuevo que sacude profundamente lo más íntimo de nuestro ser. En esta época que nos toca vivir, cuando aparece oscuro e incierto el destino de la humanidad, cuando se sienten conmovidas las bases mismas de la organización social, la repetición de este hecho de la vida normal, cobra aún relieves más salientes al señalar un privilegio de la Providencia por haber mantenido a nuestro país alejado de la vorágine. Este alejamiento no importa, de ningún modo, indiferencia y, en ese sentido, estoy seguro que en este momento, en el corazón de todos nosotros florece, en especial, un recuerdo emocionado para aquella juventud alejada del aula y para tantos maestros y hombres de ciencia apartados de sus nobles tareas.
