En el siguiente ensayo sostenemos que el género sobre el cual Leopoldo Lugones se presenta como intelectual lo sitúa —en tanto poeta— como autoridad última de la cultura desde la tradición intelectual del Romanticismo y el Modernismo. Desde las fuentes analizadas, con un lenguaje sobrecargado de imágenes, propias del Modernismo Americano, construye sus ensayos prescriptivos-pedagógicos con un carácter explícitamente polémico y político.
