| Sumario: | Next, I propose a tour that seeks to put the emergence of the San Vicente Cemetery in the city of Córdoba in context. For this, it becomes necessary to start from a historicization of the processes (social, cultural, political and medical) that give rise to changes in attitudes towards death in the West, and in particular, to a new cult of cemeteries towards XIX century. In a second moment, I delve into the ways in which the eastern area of the city of Córdoba was built, where the cemetery is located, with special emphasis on the concept of taboo suggested by Douglas (1973). The following questions guide this work: what are the socio-historical processes involved in the new cult of cemeteries during the 19th century? And what role does the death taboo play in the development of the eastern area of the city of Córdoba? |
