The proposed route focuses on the context of the first reforms implemented by Philip V and on the participation within the navy of officers of northern origin (mostly from Guipuzcoa and Biscay), who were part of the new elite that surrounded the first Bourbon. El presente trabajo propone explorar las transformaciones que tuvo la Armada del Mar del Sur desde su constitución y hasta las reformas de «nueva planta» aplicadas a mediados de la década de 1710, consideradas estas últimas un punto de llegada antes que un intento de crear una nueva fuerza del mar en el virreinato peruano. El recorrido propuesto se focaliza en el contexto de las primeras reformas implementadas por Felipe V y en la participación dentro de la armada de oficiales de origen norteño (guipuzcoanos y vizcaínos en buena parte), que fueron parte de la nueva elite de la que se rodeó el primer Borbón.
