Landívar, who participated in the expulsion of the Society of Jesus from the territories under Spanish rule in 1767, left his ethnographic knowledge and detailed description of some of the productive activities that the Ignatian Jesuits conducted in the territory of New Spain. Entre 1781 y 1782, el jesuita hispano-guatemalteco, Rafael de Landívar, llevó a las imprentas de Módena y Bolonia en Italia su obra poética que tituló Rusticatio Mexicana. Landívar, partícipe de la expulsión de la Compañía de Jesús de los territorios bajo el dominio de España en 1767, dejó plasmado el conocimiento etnográfico y la descripción minuciosa de algunas actividades productivas que los ignacianos realizaron en el territorio novohispano.
