Sumario:The apparent failure of the expansionist project of the Jesuit priests of the first expedition of Portugal - to reach Asunción from São Paulo de Piratininga -, resulted in the institution of an important system of settlements which contributed to the creation of a solid network of socio-anthropological relationships crystallized in the current Metropolitan Region of São Paulo: the Grande São Paulo. The article reinforces the importance of reading the Jesuitical activity in Brazil as a consequence of regional and territorial planning, beyond any border, language barrier and individual settlement.
