Sumario:This research documents the history of the former Jesuit colegio of San Francisco Xavier in Valladolid de Michoacán, now Morelia, Mexico. It focuses on the last eight years before the expulsion of the Society of Jesus from Spanish territory(1760-1767). This period coincides with the rule of Charles III, king of Spain (1759-1788), Jesuit General Lorenzo Ricci (1758-1773) and Pedro Anselmo Sánchez de Tagle, Bishop of Michoacán. The article begins documenting its foundation, which influenced its administration until the suppression. Then, it offers a general panorama of the state of the schools and religious foundations of the diocese de Michoacán. Finally, it examines the colegio de Valladolid based on the following themes: funding, government and administration, beneficiaries, teaching, architecture and daily life.
