Our hypothesis is that Francisco Xarque intended to “inform” readers, in the sense of giving form to them or even better edifying them. He doens’t want to give a simple account of the missionaries work. His objective was, through the relation of the missions, to forge the unity of Church's moral teaching, in a moment of intense debates on this subject. El libro Insignes misioneros de la Compañía de Jesús, escrito por Francisco Xarque y publicado en 1687, es un ejemplo de imposición de la “forma de lectura de la Contrarreforma” en una “forma discursiva” ampliamente utilizada por los jesuitas: la relación. Nuestra hipótesis es que Francisco Xarque tenía la intención de “informar” a los lectores (en el sentido de darles forma, es decir, edificarlos), más que saciar la curiosidad por el desconocido. El objetivo era, a través de la relación de las misiones, forjar la unidad de la enseñanza moral en la Iglesia, en un momento de intensos debates sobre este tema. Gostaríamos de caracterizar o livro Insignes misioneros de la Compañía de Jesús, escrito por Francisco Xarque e publicado em 1687, como exemplo de imposição da “maneira de ler da contrarreforma” em uma “forma discursiva” muito utilizada pelos jesuítas: a relação. A nossa hipótese é que Francisco Xarque pretendia “informar” os leitores, no sentido de dar forma, isto é, edificalos. O objetivo era, através do relato das missões, apelar para a unidade do ensino moral da Igreja, em um momento de intensos debates sobre esse assunto.
