The explanation of this phenomenon is offered by Fr. Gonzalo de Lyra, who in the Annua Letter of the years 1611 and 1612 writes that “instead of writing and Hebrew,” it is convenient that they study chibcha for being more useful to Jesuit theologians and clerics attending class. During the seventeenth century the teaching of this science was linked to the chair of Moral Theology. In 1722 the Belgian Jesuit Simón Vinans had assumed the responsibility of the chair. The operation was normal but we cannot offer a qualification because all documentation remains unpublished.
