A comparative study of Los adioses (1954) and Los suicidas (1969)". The original objective was to analyze and compare the way in which different voices enter into dialogue in the space of the novel, as a reflexive device. In this work, some considerations from chapters IV and V of that thesis are taken, where the functioning of the voices and the place of the hero —in a Bakhtinian sense— are analyzed, to ask comparatively what relation, both in Los adioses and in Los suicidas, the disposition to suicide establishes with a particular suffering or if, it is the case, it is understood as a suffering in itself. From the link that the possibility of self-destruction establishes with the intimacy of the heroes, the following questions arise: What relation does suicide have here with suffering and illness? How does this intimate relationship define the spatiality and temporality in the novellas? Este trabajo tiene su origen en una tesis de maestría denominada “El suicidio en Juan Carlos Onetti y Antonio di Benedetto. Un estudio comparado de Los adioses (1954) y Los suicidas (1969)”. Nuestro objetivo allí era analizar y comparar la manera en que diferentes voces entran en diálogo en el espacio de la novela, en tanto dispositivo reflexivo. Aquí tomamos algunas consideraciones de los capítulos IV y V de dicha tesis, donde se analiza el funcionamiento de las voces y el lugar del héroe —en sentido bajtiniano—, para preguntarnos comparativamente qué relación guarda, tanto en Los adioses como en Los suicidas, la disposición al suicidio con un padecimiento particular o si, en tal caso, esta es entendida como un padecimiento en sí mismo. A partir del nexo que la posibilidad de la autodestrucción establece con la intimidad de los héroes, nos preguntamos: ¿Qué relación guarda aquí el suicidio con el padecimiento y la enfermedad? ¿Cómo define esta relación íntima la espacialidad y la temporalidad en las nouvelles?
