| Sumario: | In the present work I will make a comparison between two literary characters that stand as an enemy of travelers: La Serrana de la Vera, a country woman who is located in the Spanish area of Extremadura, and the Mulánima or Almamula, who belongs to the region Andes of Argentina. Both figures originated from oral literature and reached, over time, the category of popular myth. Serranas and Mulánimas have, in the European and American continents, respectively, the power to become an obstacle for the walker, who while traveling through a difficult or lonely path, feels terror in their presence, since they will bring them severe consequences that may even involve death. In this approach I will also try to discover the social discourse that implies the demonization of the other as an enemy, in this case the female figure that is constructed as a monstrous being. |
