Both stories present a post-apocalyptic landscape resulting from a nuclear disaster that is not specifically mentioned in any of the texts. In Bradbury's tale, human and animal life has completely disappeared from the face of the earth, while in McCarthy's novel only a few human beings are left trying to survive in a barren and inhospitable environment resulting from a nuclear holocaust. En este trabajo nos interesa explorar la agencia de la materia para contar historias en dos textos ficcionales desde la ecocrítica materialista: “Vendrán lluvias suaves” (1950) de Ray Bradbury y “La carretera” (2006) de Cormac McCarthy. Ambos relatos presentan un paisaje post-apocalíptico resultado de un desastre nuclear que no se menciona específicamente en ninguno de los textos. En el cuento de Bradbury, la vida humana y animal ha desaparecido por completo de la faz de la tierra mientras que en la novela de McCarthy solo quedan algunos seres humanos que intentan sobrevivir en un ambiente yermo e inhóspito resultado de un holocausto nuclear.
