We live in an authoritarian age. The meanings with which this concept is nourished are varied, although a first meaning is that of the mo- vement inverse to that of the democratic «third wave» announced by Huntington, which was followed by this «third wave of autocratization». In this text, reflections of a conceptual and historical order are offered, which are nouris- hed by the political thought of our days as well as the contributions of the Argentine, Uruguayan and Spanish colleagues who write in this same issue of the journal Estudios. El «malestar con la democracia» -expresión típica que expresaba en la década del 80 del siglo XX la insatisfacción por sus promesas incumplidas- hasta nuestros días, el argu- mento se complejizado. Vivimos una época autoritaria. Los significados con los que se nutre este concepto son variados, aunque un primer sentido es el del movimiento inverso al de la «tercera ola» democrática anun- ciada por Huntington, a la que le sobrevino esta «tercera ola de autocratización. En este texto se ofrecen reflexiones de orden conceptual e histórico, que se nutren del pensamiento politológico de nuestros días así como de los aportes de los colegas argentinos, uruguayos y españoles que escriben en este mismo número de la revista.
