The present article strives to understand this phenomenon as an effect of the retreat of party structures and to investigate about its characteristics in a sub-national level, parting from an analysis of the “PartidoJusticialista” in Santa Cruz province in late eighties. First, we described the inner disputes of the PJ and its relation with the national politics in the national and provincial primary elections of 1988. Second, we reconstructed the political scene in Santa Cruz on the subject of the “Ley de lemas”, or Slogan´s Law, a new mechanism set in place to resolve partisan in-fighting and a sign of the retreat of the political party as the main political structure. The consulted sources have been semi-structured interviews, journalistic archives and electoral norms. Un panorama de los estudios que abordaron el cambio en la estructura del sistema político desde el regreso de la democracia en Argentina sostiene que, especialmente desde mediados de la década de 1980, es posible identificar un proceso de desnacionalización o provincialización de la competencia política partidaria y una creciente territorialización de la política. El presente artículo busca analizar este fenómeno como efecto de un repliegue de estructuras partidarias e indagar sobre sus características a nivel subnacional, a partir del análisis del caso del Partido Justicialista en la provincia de Santa Cruz hacia fines de la década de 1980. Para realizar el mismo, se describieron, en primer lugar, las disputas al interior del PJ y su relación con la política nacional en las elecciones internas nacionales y provinciales de 1988. En segundo lugar, se reconstruyó el posicionamiento de los partidos políticos sobre la «Ley de lemas» en Santa Cruz, un nuevo mecanismo propuesto para dirimir las internas políticas e indicador del repliegue del partido como estructura política. Las fuentes utilizadas fueron: entrevistas semiestructuradas, archivos periodísticos y normas electorales.
