Through a case study in the Gran San Miguel de Tucumán agglomeration,Diagonal Norte neighbourhood to reveal what lies behind these discourses and toadvance in the identification of the interests and methods with which each mediumoperates according to its typology. This reveals the foundations of the constructionprocess of those who inhabit the popular neighbourhood: either from strategies ofinvisibility or from the promotion of a leading role, favouring or counteracting conditions ofinequality. El presente trabajo tiene por objetivo indagar sobre las discursividades mediáticas entorno a la informalidad urbana, a partir del análisis de la producción y circulación denoticias de distintos medios de comunicación. A través de un estudio de caso en elaglomerado Gran San Miguel de Tucumán: barrio Diagonal Norte, se alcanza el objetivode develar aquello que subyace a tales discursos y avanzar en la identificación de losintereses y métodos con los que opera cada medio según su tipología. Esto devela loscimientos del proceso de construcción de ese otro que habita el barrio popular: ya sea apartir de estrategias de invisibilización, o desde la promoción de un rol protagónico,favoreciendo o contrarrestando las condiciones de desigualdad.
