This specie is an infrequent cause of abdominal actinomycosis. Because the insidious course and the nonspecific nature of the symptoms, its differential diagnosis is crucial for the accurate treatment. On this particular case, is highlighted the previous abdominal surgery and immune suppression stand out as factors for the suspicion of opportunistic pathogens and for the prolonged incubation of cultures, considering the need to use molecular techniques as diagnostic tools. Se presenta un caso clínico de un absceso hepático con bacteriemia por Schaalia odontolytica, bacilo Gram positivo del género Actinomyces, que es miembro de la microbiota habitual del tracto orofaríngeo humano y bajo ciertas circunstancias puedeactuar como patógeno oportunista. Esta especie es una causa poco frecuente de actinomicosis abdominal. Debido a su curso insidioso y a la naturaleza inespecífica de los síntomas que produce, es importante su diagnóstico diferencial para el abordaje deltratamiento adecuado. Se destaca en el caso presentado, la cirugía abdominal previa e inmunosupresión de la paciente como factores para la sospecha de microorganismos oportunistas y para la incubación prolongada de los cultivos, contemplando la necesidad del uso de técnicas moleculares como herramientas diagnósticas.
