In 1986 it integrales the National I-Iea1th Science Information Network and also. the Latino American and the Caribbean Health Science Information Network. The health libraries are in front of a new paradigrn. The tcchnologies of information and comniunication require new rnethiotis for adininistration of ihe information's resources and services, to answer the society information needs in the knowledge age. The traclitional and virtual library is one unit that complcment sources in different supports, electronic publications and interactive networks. It is the nexus between the scientific inheritance and the society, and itS mission is: Give local and virtual information's scrvices and managernent the information's resources, hasis of the knowleclge society, support of teaching, iitvestigation and extension of the Medi cal Sciences Faculty of the Córdoba National University. En el siglo XIX, en diciembre del año 1888 tiene lugar la creación de la Biblioteca tic la Facultad tic Ciencias Médicas de la Universidad Nacional de Córdoba, centro de generación de conocimientos, gestación de nuevas ideas y aprendizaje En 1986 la Biblioteca se integra a la Red Nacional tic Información en Ciencias de la Salud - RENICS - y se incorpora a la Red Latinoamericana y del Caribe de Información en Ciencias de la Salud. En el ingreso al tercer milenio las Bibliotecas o Unidades de Información de las Ciencias de la Salud, se encuentran frente a un nuevo paradigma. Las tecnologías de la información y las comunicaciones requieren la reingeniería en la administración de los recursos y servicios de información, con el propósito de responder a las expectativas y exigencias de la sociedad de la información en la era del conocimiento. Así comienza una nueva etapa en la que la biblioteca tradicional y la biblioteca virtual, se integran y complementan, constituyéndose en una única biblioteca o unidad de información, lo que demandó la integración de fuentes textuales, multimediales, publicaciones electrónicas y redes interactivas. Como mediadora entre el patrimonio científico y la sociedad, su misión es: Proveer servicios tic información locales y virtuales y gestión de los recursos de información sustento tic la sociedad de] conocimiento, en apoyo a la docencia, investigación y extensión de la Facultad de Ciencias Médicas tic la Universidad Nacional de Córdoba.
