description Adolescence constitutes a critical stage of growth and development as well as a period of formation of habits and lifestyles, which have an impact on nutritional needs. Eating in a pleasant environment and in company, promotes healthy eating and dialogue. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between eating habits, commensality and nutritional status of adolescents schooled in 2 educational establishments at the Province of Córdoba during the year 2018. An observational, cross-sectional and correlational study was carried out (n=255). The nutritional status was assessed according to the indicators size/age and body mass index/age. In addition, through a validated self-administered survey we investigated the average daily consumption of food groups (milk and yogurt, cheeses, vegetables, fruits, breads and sweets), the number of daily meals and commensality (adequate or not, according to the accompaniment in the meals). Chi square test or Fisher and multiple logistic regression analysis were used to assess the association between variables. Overweight was observed in 36% of adolescents, inadequate consumption of vegetables and fruits was observed in more than 80% and lacteal in 67% of them. The majority of adolescents (97%) reported adequate commensality (lunch and dinner with family or friends) and 3 to 4 meals per day (72%) prevailed.  Cheese and sweets consumption increased slightly the chance of being obese and overweight (p=0.050 and p=0.006, respectively). Inadequate consumption of vegetables predisposes to a greater chance of being obese and overweight (IC90%, p=0.075, p= 0.091). There was no association between the number of daily meals or commensality and excess weight. Results show that eating habits and nutritional status are related, so nutritional food education should be promoted, highlighting the importance of a varied diet and creating spaces for adolescents to eat with their friends or family in a calm and relaxed environment promoting dialogue and company

Results show that eating habits and nutritional status are related, so nutritional food education should be promoted, highlighting the importance of a varied diet and creating spaces for adolescents to eat with their friends or family in a calm and relaxed environment promoting dialogue and company La adolescencia constituye una etapa crítica de crecimiento y desarrollo así como un período de formación de hábitos y estilos de vida, los que repercuten en las necesidades nutricionales.
