Sumario:The coordination between extension and research practices legitimates the social function of the university and favours the co-construction of alternative solutions to social issues. From this premise, how might scientific knowledge produced at the university be linked with territorial knowledge? Besides, how can knowledge be at the service of the society that produces it? This article aims to reflect on the possibilities of formulating extension proposals based on the demands posed by institutions that collaborate with research projects. We will first comment on Speech and Language Therapy research experiences and then mention common interests and mutual requests between the research team and institutions; finally, we will propose ideas that might enable the coordination between both practices. The questions raised in this paper have emerged from the commitment to the social role of Speech and Language Therapy and the conviction that an ideal horizon is possible if we build horizontal and collaborative inter-institutional links. The text progressively reveals how the territory blurs the boundaries between two complementary practices: research and extension.
