However, promising steps have recently been taken in this regard (Kent 1982). El registro arqueológico atribuible a pastores andinos está pobremente definido. Además de los problemas generales a este tipo de contexto en el resto del mundo (Chang y Koster 1986; Robertshaw y Collett 1983; Voigt 1986), en los Andes se suma una dificultad adicional: la difícil distinción osteológica entre las diferentes especies de camélidos domesticados de silvestres.
