TECHNOLOGICAL ELECTIONS AND POTTERY PRACTICES IN THE COSTA DE REYES Nº 5 TAMBO (TINOGASTA, CATAMARCA): PETROGRAPHICAL APPROACHES.

In this paper, we present the results of a technological study through ceramic petrography carried out on a pottery sample coming from Costa de Reyes Nº 5 archaeological site (Tinogasta Department, Province of Catamarca, Argentine). The site has been characterized as an inca tambo with evidence of p...

Vera, Sergio de la Fuente, Guillermo tecnología cerámica savoir-faire Sanagasta Inca Noroeste Argentino In this paper, we present the results of a technological study through ceramic petrography carried out on a pottery sample coming from Costa de Reyes Nº 5 archaeological site (Tinogasta Department, Province of Catamarca, Argentine). The site has been characterized as an inca tambo with evidence of previous occupation at least from the Late Period. The main aim of this paper is to get a technological  approach  of  the  savoir-faire  developed  by ancient potters during the last moment of Late and Inca periods. To achieve this goal we methodologically proceeded through the application of different analytical macroscopical, sub-macroscopical, and microscopical techniques on a ceramic sample of 245 ceramic sherds, belonging to Sanagasta, Inca, and Diaguita Inca styles. This allowed us to visualize some general technological tendencies, which lead to think about the changes and continuities of the savoir -faire of ancient potters for the transition Late / Inca period at southern sector of Abaucán valley.
