INTEGRAL ANALYSIS OF THE CERAMIC TECHNOLOGICAL SYSTEM FROM THE ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE GUAYACAS (PAYSANDÚ, URUGUAY).

This paper presents the results of the archaeological study of the Guayacas site, located on the Dayman River basin (Paysandú - Uruguay). The archaeological record shows several domestic activities, according to this evidence it is inferred that Guayacas site corresponds to a residential camp. The p...

The archaeological record shows several domestic activities, according to this evidence it is inferred that Guayacas site corresponds to a residential camp. The pottery analysis allows to study several issues related to sourcing and exploiting of resources involved in vessel manufacturing. Even it is possible to assess other stages of technique sequence such as use and recycle. Technological, morphological, functional, stylistic and chronological analysis allowed us to identify the life history of the vessels. The raw material source was located in areas close to the residential camp. The manufacturing techniques included the superposition of clay cylinders and open-air cooking. Utility inferred in vessels signal the preparation and cooking of vegetable resources. Finally we conclude that technical and stylistic pre-Hispanic decisions share several features with other South American lowland hunter-gatherers.
