From de analisys of the Gruta Grabada de Chiquimí (GCh), a overhang with rock carvings I explore two aspects closely related to life in prehispanic po-pulations who occupied the valley of Yocavil (Catamarca province, Argentine). On the one hand, the GCh is considered as an aesthetic representation related to the worldview of the people involved in its production. On the other hand, analyzed as an active element in the construction of local landscapes, for which a visual and spatial analysis at the landscape scale is developed. I propose that the GCh be considered as geosign, sacred place which embodies the worldview, beliefs and cultural norms of the people who produced it, engaging in an affective relationship with the land and strengthening their identity. En el presente trabajo se aborda la apropiación del espacio habitado implicada en la conformación de los territorios y los paisajes y el arte rupestre, entendido como sistema de comunicación y elemento activo en la construcción de dichos paisajes. A partir del análisis de la Gruta Grabada de Chiquimí (GCh), un alero con grabados rupestres, se exploran dos aspectos íntimamente relacionados con la vida de las poblaciones prehispánicas que ocuparon el valle de Yocavil (provincia de Catamarca, Argentina). Por un lado se aborda la GCh como representación estética relacionada a la cosmovisión de la gente que participó en su producción. Por otro lado, se la analiza como elemento activo en la construcción de los paisajes locales, para lo cual se desarrolla un análisis visual y espacial a escala de paisaje.
