The physical environment, including the building structure and furniture are essential for both safeguarding collections and facilitating access. This paper examines the building and furniture conditions of forty-two institutions located in Resistencia, Corrientes, and Formosa. The analysis is based on reports compiled in the archive of the Document Conservation Chair, (Information Science Program, Facultad de Humanidades, UNNE) The building's analysis includes functionality (original purpose), space availability (quarantine, conservation, breaks), and building conditions (water issues, radiation, environment, pests). Additionally, the adequacy and sufficiency of furniture for the collections have been analysed. The disheartening findings underscore the urgency of intensifying our efforts in raising awareness and completing outstanding tasks. This is paramount to improving the current conditions and aligning them with preventive conservation standards and recommendations; particularly given the substantial value of the documentary heritage housed by the institutions assessed. La conservación preventiva tiene como objetivo evitar o minimizar los daños de las colecciones, a través de acciones indirectas. Las caractarísticas y condiciones de los edificios y del mobiliario de las instituciones son un factor fundamental para asegurar su salvaguarda y acceso. A partir de informes que integran el archivo de la Cátedra Conservación de Documentos (Carrera Ciencias de la Información, Facultad de Humanidades, UNNE) se analizan las condiciones edilicias y de mobiliario de cuarenta y dos instituciones de Resistencia, Corrientes y Formosa. Para el edificio se han procesado los datos relacionados con las variables: funcionalidad (construidos para función actual-adaptados); existencia de espacios (para cuarentena, tareas de conservación, refrigerio); condiciones edilicias (problemas con agua, radiaciones, parámetros ambientales, plagas). Respecto al mobiliario se analiza si son suficientes y adecuados al formato de las colecciones o fondos documentales. Los resultados no son alentadores y nos obligan a realizar mayores esfuerzos para la toma de conciencia y realización de tareas pendientes para mejorar las condiciones actuales para acercarlas a los criterios y recomendaciones de conservación preventiva; en especial debido al gran valor del patrimonio documental que almacenan muchas de las instituciones analizadas.
