The objective of this study is to reconstruct the history of its origins at the beginning of the 20th century. Within the reference topic, the social context and the sources of analysis have been interpreted under the aid of microhistory (inductive method) and the conception of mentalities. This way, an approach to the burocratic field is identified which is complemented by the conceptual corpus of the history of the book, the editing and the reading in Argentina. As a correlary, a socio-historical analysis was obtained. This put the figure of Domingo F. Sarmiento and what was understood by these types of libraries into social focus. Finally, the present article exhibits part of the results of a bachelor’s degree thesis and constitutes the first progress exclusively dedicated to the topic. El siguiente trabajo propone una reconstrucción de la historia de la Biblioteca de la Casa Natal de Sarmiento en el contexto de su fundación en 1910. Si bien la institución en sí misma es un organismo dual y es mayormente reconocida por su aspecto de Museo Nacional, contiene otra fisonomía poco estudiada. A partir de ello, el objetivo de este estudio pretende reconstruir su historia en sus orígenes a inicios del siglo XX. Dentro del tópico de referencia, el contexto social más las fuentes de análisis fueron interpretadas bajo el auxilio de la microhistoria (método inductivo) y la concepción de las mentalidades. De esta manera, se identifica una aproximación al campo burocrático que se complementa con el corpus conceptual de la historia del libro, la edición y la lectura en Argentina. Como corolario se obtuvo un análisis socio-histórico que puso en relieve el imaginario social de la figura de Domingo F. Sarmiento y lo que se entendía por este tipo de bibliotecas. Finalmente, el presente artículo exhibe parte de los resultados de una tesina de grado de licenciatura y constituye el primer avance dedicado íntegramente al tema.
