Sumario:The use of functionalist language in the lists of subject headings used in latin american libraries to organize the knowledge expressed in documents is analyzed. to test this hypothesis, a sample of 20 books by aníbal quijano was taken to show the functionalist influence, the jaccard index was used, which identified a high rate of similarity in the terminologies used in these books. the influence of american functionalist thought is evident in the use of subject headings to describe and guide the organization of knowledge expressed in aníbal quijano's books.
