Se analiza el uso del lenguaje funcionalista en las listas de encabezamientos de materias que se utilizan en las bibliotecas latinoamericanas para organizar el conocimiento expresado en los documentos. Para probar esta hipótesis se tomó una muestra de 20 libros de Aníbal Quijano. Para mostrar la influencia funcionalista se usó el índice de Jaccard que identificó una alta tasa de similitud en las terminologías usadas en esos libros. La influencia del pensamiento funcionalista americano es evidente en el uso de los encabezamientos de materias para describir y orientar la organización del conocimiento expresado en los libros deAníbal Quijano.
