The design of the experimental device, the collection of measurements, the processing and analysis are carried out in an open space within the educational institution premises, both accessible and visible to all educational stakeholders. The activity, with the first-year physics teachertrainees involves the construction of a large-scale experimental device. Such a device is used to determine Young's modulus of a galvanized steel wire, by the amount of stretch it experiences when subjected to a pulling force. As a result, the students obtained a Young's modulus within the expected value range. Se presenta una experiencia de laboratorio para el aprendizaje de la física que utiliza una metodología de aprendizaje activo. El diseño del dispositivo experimental, la recolección de medidas, el procesamiento y análisis se realiza en un espacio abierto de la institución educativa, accesible y visible para todos los actores educativos. Esta actividad involucra a estudiantes de primer año de profesorado de Física, en la construcción de un dispositivo experimental a gran escala, con la finalidad de determinar el módulo de Young para un alambre de acero galvanizado, a partir del estiramiento que experimenta al ser sometido a una fuerza de tracción. Los estudiantes obtuvieron como resultado un módulo de Young del orden esperado.
