The objective of this article is to show a practical example of infinite and punctual models in physics for their application in the teaching of pre-universitary physics. En este trabajo se muestra que un mismo sistema físico real puede reducirse a un sistema puntual o infinito en ciertas condiciones particulares. Para ello se calcula el campo eléctrico creado por un hilo finito cargado uniformemente y se observa que ese mismo sistema físico real se puede comportar como una carga puntual o como todo lo contrario, un hilo infinito. El objetivo de este artículo es mostrar un ejemplo práctico sobre lo que llamamos modelos infinitos y puntuales en física para su aplicación en la enseñanza de la física a un nivel preuniversitario.
