Its potential for science teaching has been explored in the literature. In this essay, we show how the Toulmin Argument Pattern can be used as a didactic tool to discuss topics in the history and nature of science and also to analyse discourses presented in journalistic articles, scientific dissemination texts and the like. To make our exposition clearer, we show how the Toulmin Argument Pattern captures essential elements of the structure of scientific theories and the construction of scientific knowledge, then we show how it is a useful device for inserting the history of science in the classroom from the study of Kepler's First Law. O Esquema de Toulmin é um diagrama para analisar argumentos monologais proposto por Stephen Toulmin em sua obraparadigmática Os Usos dos Argumentos, sendo de grande utilidade para os estudos em análise argumentativa e lógica informal. Suas potencialidades para o ensino de ciências vêm sendo explorados na literatura. Nesse ensaio, mostramos como o esquema de Toulmin pode ser utilizado como ferramenta didática para discutir tópicos de história e natureza da ciência e também para análise de discursos apresentados em matérias jornalísticas, textos de divulgação científica e congêneres. Para tornar mais clara a nossa exposição, mostramos como o Esquema de Toulmin captura elementos essenciais da estrutura das teorias científicas e da construção do conhecimento científico, em seguida, mostramos como ele é um dispositivo útil para a inserção de história da ciência na sala de aula a partir do estudo da Primeira Lei de Kepler.
